Outdoor planning

The following planning is a good point of reference for any outdoor shows. Of course, each show being specific, some differences will appear. However, the main steps will always be the same.

This timeline has been created to be able to perform a show with 500 drones and assume that the site has already been visited. Please refer to Workplace and Start Zone for more information.

T-4h: Upon arrival at the site

  • Switch any necessary generator/fuses, if applicable.
  • Perform any required maintenance on the drones.
  • Place batteries in charge.
  • Install the Ground Control Center following the procedure detailed in DCC Deployment.
  • Install the Wi-Fi system, following the procedure detailed in Wi-Fi.
  • Install the RTK Base following the process detailed in RTK Deployment.
  • Install any necessary auxiliary systems such as Timecode or Dronisos Hook following their respective procedures.
  • Check that the system is functional by switching on a drone and making sure it's visible on the interface, as well as reporting an RTK Float status.
  • Position the fleet on the Start Zone with the team.
  • Place charged batteries on all the drones.

T-45m: Preparing the flight

  • Switch the fleet on.
  • Following the Fleet Management page, make sure that your fleet is in the best condition possible to perform the show.

T-30m: Setup phase

When the fleet is ready, perform a setup following the instructions located in the Setup Phase. Make sure to check the families afterward TODO family check. Make sure to send multiple Transparent LED orders to all the drones in the fleet.

T-15m: Getting ready

  • Confirm with the PIC that the fleet is ready to fly.
  • Make sure that the whole team is wearing appropriate PPEs.
  • Send the VOs to their respective positions and make sure that they are blocking all accesses to the ballistic area.

T-5m: Arming the system

  • Arm the bundle, if applicable
  • Override the bundle checklist

T-1m: Countdown

Make sure to let any important parties that the light will start. It's recommended to let them know 1 minute, 30 seconds and 10 seconds before the start.

T-0: The Show

  • The fleet will take off.
  • The PIC should be fully focused on the flight, reporting anything unusual to the PMTC.
  • The VOs should report anything unusual to the PIC.
  • Wait for all the drones to finish their choreographies and to be back on the landing zone before proceeding.

T+X: After the show

  • Call the VOs back to the Start Zone.
  • If a doubt exists regarding a possible crash, count all the drones.
  • Any drone that didn't perform the flight perfectly should be put in maintenance. Make sure to note what happened and especially the final Alarm and States.
  • Download the DCC Flight Report using the procedure described on the Analysis page.
  • If a drone crashed during the flight, make sure to communicate the information to the team. Someone should be designed to get back all crashed drones. This can be done by following the procedure described on the Drone Finder page.
  • Download any necessary Blackboxes, following the procedure described on the Blackboxes page.
  • Make sure to use the flight report workflow in the operation's channel to report the result of the flight.

Leaving the site

Before leaving the site make sure that the following tasks have been completed:

  • All the drones are either in their transport box or in maintenance.
  • The Ground Control Center, Wi-Fi system, RTK Base as well as any auxiliary system have been shut down and are packed in their original container.
  • Double check that the storage of the equipment is correct.
  • Clean the office, Start Zone and any other work area.
  • Turn off any generator or fuses used if applicable.
