Location Tour

The first task is to have a tour of the location together with the client and the team, making sure to pinpoint the following locations:

  • Loading location
  • Parking spots,
  • Start zone,
  • Fly zone,
  • Safe zone,
  • DCC location,
  • Storage location,
  • Battery chargers location,
  • Position of the observers,
  • Toilets.

It's also important to:

  • Obtain electrical power (alternative current) dedicated to the DCC tent: 2 pc 16A 220V having to different sources: one dedicated to the DCC, one for the rest of the equipment
  • Obtain electrical power (alternative current) dedicated to the battery chargers : one 32A three-phase, going to a distribution box having PC16 or PC17 sockets (depending on project).
  • Unload the equipment and organize it properly around the DCC location.

General Briefing

It's important to share as a team the different objectives that should be accomplished during the session. Roles of everyone shall have already been determined, making sure of having:

  • 1 Project Manager: his task is to communicate with the client and to manage the team
  • 1 Main Pilot: responsible for the flights preparation, as well as the flights themselves
  • 1 Assistant Pilot: helping the main pilot, the Assistant Pilot task is to share critical information and be reactive to any demands from the Pilot
  • 1 Start zone Manager: his task is to manage the Start zone Helpers, as well as making sure that the flight preparation goes smoothly.
  • 1 Battery Manager: responsible for the chargers and that the number of charged batteries is in adequacy with the objectives
  • 2 or more Start zone Helpers: following the Start zone Manager orders, Helpers task is to make sure that every drone is checked as well as replaced if need be
  • 2 or more Observers: during flights, the observers task is to keep an eye of the fleet and to share information to the Main Pilot in case of emergency

NB: One person can assume at most 2 different roles at the same time

Charging of the batteries

The chargers need to be installed in a tempered, dry, secured location that is easily accessible. The DCC and the chargers shall never be connected to the same electrical source. The Battery Manager is responsible for the charging of the batteries, making sure that every battery is properly stored and that the chargers are being used efficiently. During storage, batteries stored in boxes should always be placed upside-down if discharged. Right side up batteries should always be charged batteries. Batteries that have suffered damage should be discharged using the tool located in the toolbox.
